ELIGIBILITY FOR AFGHAN NATIONALS TO BE CONSIDERED FOR RESETTLEMENT IN NEW ZEALAND

THE BELOW INFORMATION WAS ISSUED BY IMMIGRATION NZ ON 17 AUGUST 2021

Afghan nationals who assisted the New Zealand Defence Force or other government agencies during New Zealand’s deployment to Afghanistan and their immediate family (partner and dependent children) may be considered for resettlement in New Zealand.

Afghan nationals who meet the eligibility criteria for resettlement should email their inquiry to: [email protected]

Include: ⇒ an explanation demonstrating your eligibility ⇒ any documentation supporting your eligibility ⇒ a copy of the passport (or other form of photo ID) for each individual and their immediate family covered by this request ⇒ contact details, including phone number and location.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA To be eligible for resettlement in New Zealand, Afghan nationals must be able to demonstrate they meet the following criteria:

♦ Worked directly with the New Zealand Defence Force, New Zealand Police, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade or other New Zealand agencies in Afghanistan or were employed by third parties who worked alongside these agencies. This will then need to be to be verified by those agencies. OR ♦ Provided material assistance to the Inquiry into Operation Burnham and can be verified by relevant parties, AND ♦ There are reasonable grounds to believe that the safety or well-being of the individual or their immediate family has been put at risk from their association with New Zealand in Afghanistan, and that no other partner government would bear greater responsibility for their welfare

NOTE: This would apply to individuals and their partner and dependent children only.
